Mobile Apps and Rewards Programs Privacy Statement

Introduction 


This Privacy Statement (“Statement”) describes the personal data practices of Chevron USA Inc.  in connection with personal data that we collect (1) about rewards program members through our Chevron Texaco Rewards and ExtraMile Rewards program websites (each, a “Site”), and through our Chevron, Texaco and ExtraMile Rewards mobile applications (each, an “App”), and information collected at Chevron and Texaco motor fuel stations and ExtraMile convenience stores in connection with our rewards programs and otherwise and  (2) non-rewards program members who use any of the foregoing Services or make retail purchases at our locations. Collectively, we refer to these Sites, Apps, and rewards programs, and related emails, SMS messages, and offline interactions (including retail purchases) as the “Services.”

 

The purpose of this Statement is to explain our data practices for the Services. ExtraMile Rewards is owned by and ExtraMile convenience stores are owned and operated by ExtraMile Convenience Stores LLC, which has agreed to abide by and be subject to this Statement and related Chevron privacy statements for the Services.  Chevron and ExtraMile operate these rewards programs through a joint venture.

 Through the Services, we may ask you for personal data, including: 


•   Contact details, such as your name, email address, telephone numbers, and physical address

•  Your preferences with respect to email and text-message marketing and push notifications and subscriptions to newsletters

•   Financial information, including credit card numbers and banking information

•   Your purchases or transaction information, including inquiries about and orders for our products and services, as well as information that assists us in identifying the best products and services for you

•   Contest entry and event registration information

•   Feedback from you about our products and services, including the Site

•   User-preference information for users of the Services

 

Personal data collected by automated means

 

Our Services use tracking technologies to help us understand their performance and our online marketing efforts. Please see our Global Cookie Privacy Statement for more information about how the Services use tracking technologies and how you may opt out of them. Please visit the Cookie Settings in the footer of our Global Privacy Statement. Your device settings may also impact our personal data collection.

 

We collect certain data about your visit to and use of our Services, including what pages you view, the number of bytes transferred, the links you click, and other actions taken within our Services. We also collect certain standard information that your browser or device sends to every website you visit or mobile application you use, such as your Internet Protocol (IP) address, your browser type and capabilities and language, your operating system, the date and time you access the Services, your mobile device information (including ID), as applicable, and the website from which you linked to our Services.  The Services also collect personal data as provided here  

 

 In addition, we may, from time to time and in accordance with your consent (including settings on the Apps and/or your mobile device), collect your precise geolocation and information about your age to fulfill Services, including, without limitation, to offer you specific promotions.  For example: we may use your device’s precise geolocation to let you know which locations you are near or to offer you marketing for those locations.  Another example: we may request your age in connection with promotions for tobacco products. 

 

Personal data collected through the use of select third-party services through the App

 

Google Maps: Our mobile apps incorporate a Google product called Google Maps API for Business or “Google Maps”. Google Maps will help end users like you locate Chevron and Texaco branded stations and ExtraMile stores using our mobile apps and may provide other features and services through the mobile apps. The way it works, generally, is the mobile apps will send device Information and, in some instances, user content, including information about your location, to Google (including cached data). Google will then be able to display, through the mobile apps, nearby Chevron- and Texaco-branded gas stations and ExtraMile-branded locations that accept mobile payments and/or participate in the Chevron Texaco Rewards program and the ExtraMile Rewards program. Google may use the information we provide through the mobile apps in various ways. To understand how Google may use that information, make sure you read Google’s Privacy Policy, which is a distinct policy and notice document from this Mobile Apps Privacy Statement.

 

If at any point in time you decide you do not wish to consent to any of the above Google terms, you must uninstall the mobile apps immediately. There is no other way to revoke or opt out of the Google Maps functionality and its associated terms, restrictions, and data privacy implications.  

 

Third-Party Payment Solutions: To purchase fuel through our mobile apps, you may choose to add/enable authorized payment options within the apps. To pay for fuel using your active PayPal Inc. (“PayPal”) account you must link your PayPal account to your User Account. Upon linking your PayPal Account to your User Account, all PayPal transactions you make with or via the app at participating Chevron- and Texaco-branded and ExtraMile-branded locations will be charged to and/or processed through your PayPal account, subject to the terms and conditions of your agreements with PayPal.  Company is not liable or responsible for any claims or disputes related to your PayPal account or PayPal’s use of your personal data. You are encouraged to review PayPal’s Privacy Policy for additional information regarding the potential processing of your personal data that may result from your enabling of this third-party payment functionality and using this third-party payment service through the mobile apps and the processing conditions to which you are providing your consent when you choose to enable this functionality and use these services through the apps. Similarly, if you choose to use Apple Pay or Google Pay to purchase fuel through our mobile apps, these transactions will be charged to and/or processed through your Apple Pay or Google Pay account, subject to the terms and conditions of your agreements with Apple Inc. (“Apple”) or Google Inc. (“Google), as applicable.  Company is not liable or responsible for any claims or disputes related to your Apple Pay or Google Pay account or Apple’s or Google’s use of your personal data. You are encouraged to review Apple’s or Google’s Privacy Policy for additional information regarding the potential processing of your personal data that may result from your enabling of these third-party payment functionalities and using these third-party payment services through the mobile apps and the processing conditions to which you are providing your consent when you choose to enable this functionality and use these services through the apps.  

 

Apple CarPlay, Apple Watch, Android Auto, or Wear OS device: When using the App via Apple CarPlay, Apple Watch, Android Auto, or Wear OS devices, you are encouraged to review Apple’s or Google’s Privacy Policy. 

 

Checking Pay™: Checking Pay transaction is made using the customer’s bank account through Pay with Spire. When using the App via Checking Pay, you are encouraged to review Pay with Spire’s Privacy Policy.

 

You may choose not to provide us with this personal data, which may limit your use of the Services and access to certain promotions.

 

Personal data collected from other sources

 

We may also collect personal data from other sources, for example publicly-available websites (such as LinkedIn), or our business partners, and marketing companies.

We use personal data as described above, to provide the requested Services to you, communicate with you through the Services, operate and administer the Services and analyze Services usage.  We may also use personal data to execute or improve our security measures.  Please see here.

Sales of personal data


Subject to any opt-out rights, we may “share” or “sell” (as those terms may be defined by applicable state privacy law) certain transactional personal data to marketing companies, data and media network providers, other retail merchants, and rewards and discount program providers for third parties’ promotional purposes. Retention of personal data


We retain personal data, including sensitive personal data, for as long as needed or as otherwise consistent with the purposes for which it was collected. When determining the retention period, we use various criteria, including: the length of time we have an ongoing relationship with you and provide services to you; the legitimate business purposes for which we collect and process personal data as described in this Statement, including retention of personal data related to the defense and pursuit of legal claims; and whether we are subject to a legal obligation that requires us to retain records.

 

De-identified personal data


Where we maintain or use de-identified personal data, we will continue to maintain and use such data only in a de-identified form fashion and will not attempt to re-identify the personal data.

 

Security


We seek to use reasonable organizational, technical, and administrative measures designed to protect personal data within our organization. Unfortunately, no data transmission or storage system can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. If you have reason to believe that your interaction with us is no longer secure, please immediately notify us in accordance with the “how to contact us” section below.

 

Use of Services by children


The Services are not directed to individuals under the age of 16 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from individuals under 16 or “share” or “sell” it.
